Week 9 fantasy football rankings and waiver adds
Plus, a roundup of NFL trade deadline deals and their fantasy impact.
So, it was a pretty interesting NFL trade deadline, no? Maybe not if you’re a fan of the 6-2 Giants. Why win now when there’s a small chance you might win in the future?!
Anyway, before I start going off on a tangent, let’s look at some of the deals that actually did happen, and what it might mean fantasy-wise:
T.J. Hockenson to the Vikings — Irv Smith Jr. suffered a high-ankle sprain in the team’s game in Week 8, so Hockenson comes in to take his place. He should continue providing weekly appeal at the TE position, and has solid weekly touchdown upside even in a somewhat crowded offense.
Chase Claypool to the Bears — Claypool will form a one-two WR punch with Darnell Mooney that the Bears will likely hope keeps the positive momentum of QB Justin Fields moving forward. In Pittsburgh, this opens the door for rookie WR George Pickens to carve out a bigger role in the offense.
Nyheim Hines to the Bills — Hines has one of the best pass-catching skillsets of all running backs in the NFL currently, and his presence should provide a big boost to Josh Allen and Buffalo’s offense as a whole. This move hurts the fantasy value for all other Bills RBs, mainly Devin Singletary and James Cook.
Chase Edmonds to the Broncos — The trade adds some intriguing fantasy value to Edmonds, given the Broncos seem unsettled with Melvin Gordon III and Latavius Murray in the backfield. He could be worth a speculative add in deeper leagues.

Depending on your league settings, you may still be in waiver wire territory, so I’ll also share a few pickup recommendations courtesy of 5th Down’s Aidan Gurvitch. Hope all is well where you are, and thanks so much for subscribing!
Week 9 waiver wire adds
Tyler Allgeier, ATL- RB (55%)
Despite not being particularly efficient on the ground, Tyler Allgeier certainly got volume. Totaling 85 yards, Allgeier also found the end zone to add onto his 14 rush attempts. In an Atlanta offense desperately looking for stability, Allgeier’s usage may be on the rise.
Rondale Moore, ARI- WR (36%)
You may remember Rondale Moore being an effective WR2 in Arizona last season opposite DeAndre Hopkins. Well, the situation has risen again. With Hollywood Brown out, and Hopkins back, Moore may be back to his previous role. With a 7/92/1 line in Week 8, we now know that he is capable of getting volume and finding the end zone. He’s a must-pick-up as long as Brown stays sidelined.
Evan Engram, JAX- TE (43%)
Evan Engram has been a pleasant surprise for Duval County. Having no less than 6 targets since Week 4, Engram is capable of being a high-floor streamer option moving forward. If the tight end can score a touchdown, don’t be surprised if he can put up TE1 numbers. Considering the annual TE drought, Engram is not a bad choice at all.
